Voted as QTV's No.1 "Ang Pinaka-Paboritong Movie ni FPJ" (The Favorite Movies of FPJ), Ang Panday was FPJ's official entry in the 1980 Metro Manila Film Festival. It went on to bag the festival's top grosser and once again reaffirmed FPJ's stature as the filmdom's top moneymaker and undisputed top box-office star. The movie was adapted from a popular Pilipino Komiks serial novel by veteran writer-director Carlo J. Caparas. The first issue came out in March 19, 1979 and became an instant hit among komiks readers.
Here's the first two issues of that much talked-about novel that made the name Carlo J. Caparas a household name up to this time. Ang Panday/ 1979/ Serialized in Pilipino Komks/

wow! salamat uli Simon!
In 1979, a week after “…At Muling Nagbaga Ang Lupa” was shown in Metro Manila, Carlos De Leon did a promo stint (for the provincial run, I guess) in the noontime show Student Canteen. Before rendering the theme song from the said movie, he was asked about any of his upcoming projects, wherein he quipped, that due to the success of their movie, the same cast will soon shoot “Ang Panday”! From the moment he started singing, I have envisioned (or fantasized) the other comics characters/movie roles with Carlos, Beth Bautista, Dencio Padilla (will always be in an FPJ flick), and Van De Leon. Neither of them made it to post-production.
- PAN-DAY!...PAN-DAY!...PAN-DAY!
Long Live Da King!

Tama kayong lahat, there's only one PANDAY in Philippine Cinema and it's no other than Fernando Poe Jr or FPJ.
Send you the details. Thanks!
